We continue to go around Spain with a stamp dedicated to our most emblematic dishes, this time with the Pa amb tomàquet of Catalonia. Simple and delicious!
The stamp dedicated to Catalonia presents a detail of this well-known dish, with its two main ingredients, bread and tomato.
It was the sixteenth century when it arrived in Spain, by the hand of the settlers who came from the New World, the main ingredient of the dish that concerns us today: the "pa amb tomàquet". The tomato is the fundamental basis of this recipe, which is not only enjoyed in our country, but has crossed borders.
There are several currents about its origin although the greatest consensus speaks of a totally Catalan recipe of the "pa amb tomàquet".
It is in 1884 when we can find the first references of the "pa amb tomàquet" in Catalonia, more specifically in the houses of peasants. It is in these Catalan farmhouses where they began to take the habit of spreading the stale bread made several days ago, with tomato and a stream of oil to eat it soft.
Leaving aside the origin, there is no doubt that this recipe is entirely associated with Catalonia.
Get this block sheet from our series Gastronomy: Spain in 19 dishes. This recipe accompanies most Catalan meals. Its traditional recipe is based on a slice of bread, toasted or not, with the ripe tomato directly scrubbed on top. Some add half a clove of garlic rubbed timidly, and topped with a splash of a good olive oil.

What is a block sheet, and how is it different from a normal seal?
Taking into account that the normal seal has only the surface occupied by the seal, the block sheet is an illustrated surface where one or more seals can appear, so its dimension will be larger, occupying that of the seal and the rest of the sheet and, their sizes and shapes can be very varied.
A curious fact that also differentiates the seal and the block sheet, is that in the first one live characters cannot appear, but in the environment of the seal in the block sheet yes.
