Description

2021 marked the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Communist Party. We launched a stamp to commemorate the centenary of a party that has been part of the history of Spain; A story with many faces, of women and men, who decided to commit themselves to change the reality of an unjust and unequal country.

The Spanish Communist Party, also known as the One Hundred Children Party because of its origin in the Socialist Youth, was founded on April 15, 1920. A year later, in 1921, a second detachment emerged, the Spanish Communist Workers' Party . The integration of these two parties gave rise, through the intervention of the Communist International, to what was called the Communist Party of Spain, on November 14, 1921 .

In March 1922 the party held its first congress. Shortly after its constitution, it faced repression from the dictatorship of General Miguel Primo de Rivera. With the Second Republic he had a moment of great development, especially after the constitution of the Popular Front, as well as for his role in the civil war, when he participated with several ministers in the government, under the leadership of the Sevillian José Díaz and the Biscayan Dolores Ibárruri, "la Pasionaria" .

During the Franco regime, despite the harsh conditions of clandestinity, the PCE became the engine of the forces that fought for democracy . There were thousands of women and men, who promoted a new trade unionism from the base, attached to each socio-political workplace in the demand for labor rights and political freedoms, two sides of the same coin that was impossible to separate: the Workers' Commissions . At the same time, a powerful neighborhood movement, university, feminist and, even within the Catholic Church, emerged that contributed to rebuilding a democratic civil society.

The PCE was legalized in Holy Week 1977. After the establishment of the democratic regime in 1978, the PCE participated in the elaboration of the Spanish Constitution and in the performance of the party system. Since 1986 he has done so within the United Left. It celebrates its centenary with an extensive program of political and cultural activities.
