On the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University of Córdoba (UCO), we launched a stamp on which an illustration of the main façade of the Rectorate of the University appears, in Mudejar style, which in its day was the headquarters of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The University of Córdoba was founded in 1972, although the first project to provide Córdoba with a university dates back to the sixteenth century, when San Juan de Ávila, promoted the creation in Córdoba of a general study of grammar, art and philosophy.
During the reign of José Bonaparte, the Patriotic Society of Córdoba made a new attempt for Córdoba to have university studies, the result of the ideas brought by the Enlightenment at the end of the eighteenth century, although this initiative did not finish curdling.
Years later, in 1847 the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Córdoba was born, dependent on Seville, and germ of the current University. Also, in 1870, the Free University of Cordoba was created on the initiative of the Provincial Council.
The University of Cordoba was founded in 1972, arising precisely from these two previous institutions. The UCO currently has 21,000 students, just over 1,200 teachers and 700 workers, and has become a University of high teaching quality and scientific solvency tests .The studies of the University of Córdoba range from the Humanities and the Legal-Social Sciences to the Health Sciences and the scientific-technical careers, three areas that correspond to its structuring in three large campuses or areas:
