Emilia Pardo Bazán Seal

Price unit:
2 €

Description

In 2021 the centenary of the death of Emilia Pardo Bazán is celebrated. Writer, thinker, and precursor of feminism. A stamp dedicated to a great woman.

One hundred years after his death, today his voice is heard louder than ever. Emilia Pardo Bazán was one of the first women considered a feminist. Brave, and very educated for her time, she claimed that women could have a job with their own salary, training, and not depend on a man. He always defended his ideas.

The writer, born in La Coruña, was one of the main creators of her generation. Some of his best-known literary works are Los pazos de Ulloa, La cuestión palpitante or Insolación. She spoke several languages and practiced countless literary activities: she was a novelist, poet, essayist, playwright, translator, literary critic, editor, professor... She even tried to be part of the Royal Spanish Academy, but they did not allow it for the simple fact of being a woman.

To honor her, we launched this purple seal, with the symbol of Venus as the main motif, and inside, an image of Emilia with her back and in profile. The background of the stamp reproduces part of a text of the writer, in which words as representative in her life as "rights" or "women" stand out.
