In this case, we pick up a scene from the well-known Bethlehem of the Rock. This nativity scene is the largest in the city of Valencia, and is also the nativity scene with more figures in all of Spain. It is a family project, with more than 20 years of history, and manufactured by hand.
The Bethlehem is located in the Roca de Meliana neighborhood in Valencia. In 1989, Melchor Almela Lagarda, master nativity scene, and Francisco Pascual Albiach, along with a group of friends and family, decided to participate in the nativity scene contest organized by the Peña la Forca and the City Council of Meliana. They won the third prize, something that encouraged them to continue expanding their work, both in size and complexity. They re-entered the contest and won a well-deserved first prize. Every year the nativity scene was dismantled and reassembled, although from 2005 it was definitively installed in its current location.
It currently occupies more than 50 square meters and consists of about 6000 pieces. Each of the figures are modeled with clay and defined with small spatulas. They are colored by hand and reproduced by plaster casts.
